Accessible Content for Every Reader, Compliant With Every Standard

S4Carlisle has been helping publishers create and remediate accessible content since 2019, when we became a Benetech Global Certified Accessible (GCA) vendor. We help publishers meet the global standards and overcome the cost and complexity of creating content that every reader can access.

INTRODUCTION

Benetech Global Certified Accessible™ (GCA) Vendor
Since 2019

The GCA certification is the first-ever third-party programme to verify eBook accessibility. It is awarded to vendors who consistently produce ePUBs that meet the full range of accessibility features required to support readers with disabilities and learning differences, including conformance with EPUB Accessibility 1.0 and WCAG 2.2 AA.

WHY NOW

Two Deadlines, One Solution

Accessibility compliance is no longer a future consideration for publishers. Two major regulations are now in force.

EAA

(in force since June 2025)

Noncompliant digital products risk fines and removal from EU platforms.

ADA Title II

The DOJ has extended the compliance deadline to April 26, 2027, for larger public institutions, and April 26, 2028, for smaller jurisdictions and special districts. Publishers must meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards to remain eligible for institutional procurement contracts.

Beyond compliance, accessible and structured content reaches 1.3 billion people globally with disabilities, ranks better in search, and performs better in AI-powered discovery. NINJA helps you get there without rebuilding your workflows.

WHAT WE OFFER

Our Accessibility Services

Accessible PDF Remediation

We remediate existing PDFs to meet WCAG 2.2 AA and PDF/UA standards, applying correct tagging, reading order, heading structure, and alternative text (alt text) for images. We also add bookmarks, internal and external hyperlinks, and embedded media support, making documents fully compatible with screen readers, text-to-speech systems, and braille displays. Remediated files are uploaded and ready for distribution.

Accessible ePUB Production

We produce ePUBs that conform to the EPUB Accessibility 1.0 specification and exceed WCAG 2.2 AA requirements. Every file is tested for screen reader compatibility and validated against GCA certification standards, covering structural semantics, reading order, navigation, and accessible image descriptions.

Alt Text Writing

We write accurate, contextually appropriate alt text for images in eBooks and digital documents, meeting the ADA, Section 504, and WCAG requirements. Our writers determine whether alt text is required for each image, what level of description is needed based on context, and write descriptions that convey the necessary information to readers using assistive technology. Disciplines covered include nursing, medicine, health sciences, and science and technology.

Dubbing and Voiceover

We provide professional dubbing and voiceover services for publishers adapting content into other languages or formats. Our team of linguists, directors, and recording engineers ensures the adapted version accurately conveys the same meaning and tone as the original, with native speaker QA review on every project.
